Two Month Shots

Cady’s 2 months shots were yesterday. She was set to get 5 shots. Luckily, they were out of one vaccine that we have to come back next week for. So: 20% less screaming. The shots themselves yielded some hellacious screams (see video below), but it wasn’t until Brennyn went home, I went back to work, and Cady was startled awake from her nap by the cleaning lady that the real action started. Brennyn called me at work with Cady screaming some screams that could only signal the End of Times. So, I left work early, called the doctor on the way home, and stopped to pick up some infant Tylenol at Kroger. Cady was a lot better by the time I got home…but only while she was eating. As soon as I would touch her, she would erupt again. So, we pulled off her Band-Aids, and gave her some Tylenol, and she finished eating. Soon she was snoozing, and was sleeping like a crazy woman through the rest of the evening and overnight.

  1. Poor baby girl! I remember that good ol’ purple meddy would put us right to sleep, too….good stuff! Can’t wait to see you all.

  2. Cady, you were such a good girl for your shots! You were sleepy when we arrived but you gradually woke up and your Daddy held you. In the doctor’s office you began to get a little hungry so I fed you until the nurse came in. She asked us all about you and whether you were doing all the things that you needed to developmentally. Like raising you head during tummy time (yes), tracking objects more smoothly (yes), grasping for things (yes, when placed in your hand), smiling (yes) and talking (YES!). You have become quite the talker! We stripped you down to your diaper and weighed you. The nurse said she wasn’t sure you were 11lbs but you were. You were so good on the scale! We got your height by marking your measurements on the paper on the table. We held and played with you until the Dr. Guthrie came in to see you. Your eyes were just so beautiful that morning and you were such a talker and looked so pretty. We got a couple of pictures of you and then the doctor came in.

Once the doctor was in there we looked you over and checked your step relax, your ears and nose and stuck a tongue depressor in your mouth and you gagged, just like mommy does! She said you looked great and she got out her stethoscope to listen to you. It must have been cold because once it touched your skin you did your startle relax, your eyes got so big and you moved quickly from side to side. Your daddy and I laughed so hard, because we had never seen you do it. You were just so precious, even the doctor thought so. Some of the questions that I had for the doctor were: a little bump on your right upper thigh that I had noticed recently (it’s okay :), whether you should be sleeping longer than 30 minutes (normal at this age). Today you had a nap that was 1.5 hours long and last night you slept 7 hours straight with 8 hours in between meals! Good for you. Daddy was worried about how raspy you sound sometimes and the doctor said that was normal too!. You were 22 3/4 inches long and your head was 25% percentile, which worried your daddy at first but we decided that it’s better your head isn’t huge and you are so smart with such a compact brain! You’re a good girl!

When it was time for your shots daddy and I were a little nervous for you because you were being so sweet and didn’t know what was in store. There were going to be 4 shots and 1 oral vaccine. Daddy wanted to hold you and he did a great job. You liked having him there; he provided comfort and security. We hated having to see you in pain but these shots are good for you and need them in order to live a long and healthy life. When it was all done daddy held and I did too and you were fairly calm all the way home. We went upstairs to watch TV while our cleaning lady finished and you feel asleep for 3 hours! When Hortencia called out that she was leaving it woke you up and it was down hill from there. You had your startle reflex and immediately put out your bottom lip! When I went to change your diaper and outfit you really got upset and began to scream this horrible painful scream. This lasted about an hour. I started crying too because I couldn’t stand to see my precious beautiful baby is so much pain. I called Grandma and asked her what to do and she said that I should put you in the tub to distract you. This worked and you calmed down enough to open your eyes and I put your hand in your mouth. After your bath I redressed you and feed you until Daddy arrived with the Tylenol. You were better with the medication and I was happy daddy was home to comfort you and me. You feel asleep in his arms and the rest of the evening was much better. We love you so much Cady and hate for you to be in pain and will always try to make this better for you. Goodnight baby girl

    xoxo Mommy

  3. My sweet baby Cady, it probably hurt all of us more than it hurt you to have those ole mean shots but we would never ever want our angel to get sick with anything more than the sniffles. Mommy and Daddy were very brave, too!

  4. The part that breaks my heart the most is that it made you cry brennyn! :…( I can’t believe they give babies so many shots at once though! That doesn’t seem like it’d be good to mix so many drugs.

    1. Hey Manda, I know! And the worst part of it all is that they didn’t give her one shot, we have to go back for that tomorrow!! Think a good though for her! 🙂

  5. How could you take video of that torture! I always took pix when I could.
Wish video had been that easy with Trey and Andrew. It is such an ordeal to watch their videos and still brings a tear. You will cherish all these captured moments.
